Dr. Vuong Mai
一. Biography
Vuong Mai is an Assistant Professor in the School of Computing and Engineering and a member of the Centre for Space AI at the University of Bradford, UK. He previously held the position of Research Assistant Professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), South Korea. His research focuses on optical wireless communications and space technologies.二. Research
1. OSpace (Optical Wireless and Future Space Technologies):
The growing demand for high-speed data transmission and increasing congestion in the conventional wireless spectrum are driving strong research interest in optical wireless communications. Our work focuses on free-space optics (FSO) that enables high-speed, secure data transmission over long distances and supports quantum communications. Despite their potential, FSO systems face several challenges, including atmospheric effects, link blockage, and the need for precise beam alignment. To address these issues, we are developing intelligent techniques to enhance system reliability. Beyond FSO, we are also exploring innovative space technologies, such as AI-enabled Earth observation, satellite constellations, and space-based quantum networks.
2. PhD Projects
(1) Artificial Intelligence-Enabled Free-Space Optics for Future Advanced Satellite Communications
(2) Advancing Earth Observation with Artificial Intelligence
(3) Advanced Networking Techniques for Quantum Space-Aerial-Terrestrial Integrated Network
